WELCOME TO OUR NEW PARTNERS,
MIREILLE BERTON and SIMON GABAY
We are pleased to announce the arrival of two new prestigious partners in the ArchiMed project: Mireille Berton and Simon Gabay. Their expertise will contribute to the development of new perspectives in the analysis and exploitation of medical archives.
Mireille Berton : A specialist in the history of media and visual culture
Mireille Berton, a historian interested in the relationship between cinema and mental health, is a lecturer and researcher at the "history and aesthetics of cinema" section at the University of Lausanne.
Her work focuses on the relationships between psychiatry and the media, with a particular interest in the history of imaging techniques and their roles in the construction of medical knowledge. She is the specialist of psychiatric films in Swiss institutional archives. Since 2021, she has been leading the project "Cinema and Psychiatry in Switzerland, around the Waldau collection," funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
Her expertise in analyzing medical representations and visual devices will be a major asset for ArchiMed. Thanks to her research on psychiatry and the media, she will contribute to a better contextualization of historical documents, particularly those related to the representation of illness and therapeutic practices. Her approach will enrich our reflection on how images and media formats shape the perception of medicine over time.

Simon Gabay : An expert in digital humanities and artificial intelligence
Simon Gabay, with a background of medievalist, is now an assistant professor in digital humanities at the University of Geneva. As a specialist in language technologies, he conducts research on the analysis of textual corpus and artificial intelligence applied to the humanities.
In the context of ArchiMed, his expertise in digital editing and automatic text processing will help optimize our use of historical sources. His experience in data visualization and textual modeling will assist us in structuring, exploring, and interpreting these documents more efficiently, utilizing the latest advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
